Title: Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010)
Director: Edgar Wright
Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick
Genre: Action/Adventure/Comedy
Here’s the thing about Michael Cera. You (and me, and us, I think) always see him as this good guy, overpow
ered by exceptionally talented or beautiful or witty-almost-cruel-to him girls. And he seems okay with that. Really. Paulie Bleeker, with his golden shorts and tic-tacs, was so iconic that Cera himself can’t seem to step out of that role.
Fanboys around the world rejoice.
And wait. To set things straight, I am not a fanboy. Or fangirl. Eugh, that one sounds weird. Anyway, you get the point. I’m not a gamer, I don’t read Scott Pilgrim’s comic, yet the surrealist hype of this movie just got to me in the end. I really wanted to watch it. Especially after I watched Kick-Ass, and I loved it.
Then there’s the dreadful news: Scott won’t make it in our theatres. Entah kenapa. Well, he got in on Jiffest though :) And that’s good. I wish I can see Scott’s fights on widescreen. Err.. fights? What fights? Here ya go.
The Story:
Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is a 22-year-old slacker. He’s in-between jobs, and sleeping in the same bed with his gay roommate. He’s in a garage band named Sex Bob-Omb, and he’s got a cute young Asian girlfriend. Hidupnya sepertinya bakal baik-baik saja, sampai Scott didatangi Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) di dalam mimpi. Ramona, with her huge innocent eyes and her wild hairdo, turned his life around. Scott was in love, but he had to fight her seven evil exes before he and Ramona can live happily.
I Say:
See? The story IS simple. And that’s exactly what we need in Scott Pilgrim. I get it. It’s a helluva fun movie.
Mengutip teman diskusi saya, “You laugh on one joke for too long and suddenly you’ll miss another joke.” Timpal menimpali, susunan pemerannya semua bermain bagus, dan ya.. begitulah.
Perlu disebut satu-satu? Perlu. Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells the gay roommate. Damn he can act. Dia seperti tipe orang yang tak usah berusaha terlalu keras untuk masuk ke karakter yang dia perankan, yet he pulled it off. Bravo.
Ellen Wong as Knives Chau. She transformed from this sweet high school girl, to an annoying brat, to a girl too good for Scott Pilgrim. Kadang memang karakternya terasa klise, but she’s fresh and non-pretentious.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona. What can I say? This girl landed on a good role. Yea she’s pretty, but I won’t praise her that much. She’s not really “there”. I still think she can do better.
Straight into Scrapbook:
Uber-cool fight scenes, with no blood involved. Oh, and a rockin’ soundtrack. Go get it.
Straight into Crapbook:
Di beberapa bagian, durasi film terasa terlalu lama. Atau kedodoran saja, mungkin.
Alternate Version:
Beck as a cameo! It’d be great since he played some of the songs in the soundtrack too :D
Verdict:
3 ½ out of 5
He's no longer your Bleeker.
